Reopening Yoga Experience Studio Doors

This may be one of the harder decisions I’ve had to make since I decided to open Yoga Experience six years ago. Early in the beginning of this pandemic my concerns turned to how, when, and at what capacity I’d be able to open the studio doors again. The Illinois stay at home order may end at the beginning of June, but does that mean that students are ready to leave their homes and come out to class? Is it responsible to gather people in groups? Is it important to be one of the businesses that helps to get life on track to overcome the fears that have developed over the last few months? Will opening with deep restrictions tank my business? It’s a bit overwhelming to be honest with you.

In times of deep questioning I know I have tools to help me through. First, I have to stay present and not get caught up in the what ifs of the future. I think it’s one of the most powerful lessons from this pandemic. Expect nothing, be ready for everything, go with the flow of each new moment. I also know that I need to dig deep into my meditation practice and fine tune my intuition. My intuition has always guided me to a more enriched experience in life, and I have no doubt it will continue to do so. In addition, I have to listen to those who know so much more than I do, and who keep me informed without bias or emotional attachment, but simply the facts as they have proven themselves. And finally, I need to listen to YOU, the dedicated students as to where your needs lie at this time.

With Mayor Lightfoot delaying the opening of Chicago until ???, and almost all of you stating that you are not yet comfortable venturing out, I’ve decided to keep Yoga Experience closed until June 14th. Regular online classes will continue during this time. Starting June 15th I will begin to have classes in the studio and online with the following guidelines. These guidelines will continue until at least the end of June at which time we’ll re-asses. There’s a lot of info here, so please read carefully.

1. In Studio classes will be held only every other day to allow a full day of disinfecting in between.

2. In Studio class sizes will be kept to a maximum of 10 people to allow for 6 feet of social distancing. (An online option for the class will be available as well, see instructions below)

3. Participants MUST sign up for class ahead of time. No drop ins will be allowed.

4. Participants must use their own mat and props. No studio common use mats or props will be available until further notice.

5. Participants will be asked to disinfect the space their mat occupied on the floor and to either wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before and after class. Disinfecting spray and hand sanitizer will be provided.

6. No hands- on adjustments will be made until further notice.

7. Private lessons can resume (except for Yogassage) with the same guidelines as above, and can be booked online as before.

8. Participants waiting for class must keep social distance in hallway. Studio will open 10 minutes prior to class. Please arrive no earlier than that.

On the days that the studio is closed for disinfecting I will continue to offer some online classes to help compliment the schedule. On the days there are classes at the studio an online version of the class will also be available. (See further instructions below) For those of you with class packages that have probably expired by now, I will extend them until the end of the year. Please let me know via email if you have a package with classes left on it.

I personally can’t wait to get back to live classes with MUSIC and the sounds of pranayama and giggles and questions and grunts and sighs. I can’t wait to feel all the good vibrations return to the studio that everyone brings during their practice. I can’t wait to hear you laugh at my stupid jokes and say namaste so I can hear it and chant with me. I can’t wait to get out of my little tin shed and look out the windows at the sky. I really just can’t wait! However, I encourage you to do whatever you feel is right for you. I promise you I will do everything in my power to make Yoga Experience safe and healing, as it has always been. But just as I am listening to MY intuition on this…you must too. I honor and respect whatever your choice is, as it is right for you.

As with this whole time, if things change, Yoga Experience will change with it. Whichever way this evolves over the next few months, I hope you will keep Yoga Experience an important part of your life. I am so grateful that all of you are such an important part of mine. Thank you for your deep and committed support now and always.

Namaste,
Tracy
